Weekend Stuff

What a weekend! We got to drive to Malibu (I'd never been there) to watch Pacifica's varsity waterpolo team play a CIF game. It's been a pretty exciting journey - Lauren and some of her JV teammates were called up to sit on the bench as 'extras' for the Varsity CIF game. Lauren didn't play but she had a great time rooting her friends along. In the end, we lost to the "Malibu girls with attitudes" but our girls held their heads high and accepted defeat.

Mike's been busy working on the trailer getting it ready for our trip to Death Valley next weekend. I'm ready to roll... pack the food/clothes and WE'RE OFF!! The kids will be staying home by themselves, so if you see a party or smoke call the police!!

Valentine's Weekend

We're all home for a long 4 day weekend! We had planned to go out dirt bike riding but the rainy weather changed our minds! Maybe next weekend?

Friday was a lazy day for the kids - I guess sleeping all day is something 'teens' enjoy :-) Mike and I enjoyed the rainy day by seeing SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE at the movies - what a GREAT story!

Valentine's Day was uneventful - Mike & I went shopping to buy a much needed couch/loveseat. Happy Valentine's Day to US!  In the evening the family was invited to see the Harlem Globetrotters with Dad and Karen. What a fun show!

Mike's been busy traveling back/forth to Temecula and Florida for the two new Yardhouse restaurants he's building. They will both be opening up in the next month, then he'll be off building in Texas. I'll be attending the Grand Opening of both stores (as I usually do) but Florida will be the exciting trip! And lucky me, it falls during my spring break, so I won't need to take any time off work. I'm going to try and go for about 5 days and am hoping the kids can behave themselves while we're gone. (let me know if you hear of any parties planned)

Izzy's all moved into her new apt. and seems to be enjoying her quiet time. Mike & I've gone over each weekend with bags of groceries and tools to help her hang pixs, put furniture together etc.

Chris is back to school full-time and working on his non-school days in construction.

Andrew's playing varsity volleyball and works out at the gym with his brother on occasion.

Lauren's through playing water polo, at least that's what we thought! The season was over last week but she was called up to play with varsity for CIF ~ we are all very excited about this! She will start swim team next week and we're anxiously awaiting her team placement (frosh/soph or varsity)

We are starting to get our summer plans in order - where do we want to go? Hmm ... looks like camping is first priority! It looks like a drive North to the redwoods, Mendicino, and the Russian River. Then we'll probably take long weekends and do more camping. We recently purchased a larger trailer (for all the kids) but they never seem to want to join us, which gives Mike & I plenty of room!! Almost as nice as staying at the Hilton!! (well almost)

Catch Up!

For those of you that don't see us regularly, I'll bring you to date on each one of us:

Mike is in his 3rd year of working for YARDHOUSE restaurants in Irvine. He's the construction manager for all the new stores they build. He's currently working on stores in Florida and Temecula and keeping very busy traveling.  We are very blessed that he has a job and continues to work in these difficult times.

Chelli started a new position with the Garden Grove School district in November. I'm currently the district CRA (computer resource assistant) and I travel to various schools in our district to take care of minor computer issues. I'm still working part time and hoping this position works into full-time once the budget gets worked out.

Elizabeth is going to school at Cal State Fullerton and studying language development. She and Adam have postponed their wedding date for sometime in the future. They are diligently working on their careers before walking down the isle. Elizabeth surprised us last week with an announcement that she had put a deposit on an apt and was moving out the following weekend. She (us) moved out this past weekend.  BOY!! Did she have a lot of stuff to move! She now lives in Fullerton, very close to school/work. The apt is very cute and has 'Izzy' all over it!

Christopher is attending GoldenWest College and getting his general education requirements completed. He hopes to graduate this summer. Chris is working in construction and learning the trade - so many things to learn, but he's getting lots of hints from Mike. Chris enjoys playing basketball, softball, soccer and working out at the gym in his spare time.

Andrew is a senior at Pacifica HS this year and is on the varsity volleyball team. He plans on going to a community college next fall to work on his general education requirements. Andrew's currently not employed but works the occasional weekend with Chris doing construction. He's become the 'jack of all trades' working at neighbor's homes cleaning pools, hanging Christmas lights, gardening, and minor household repairs.

Lauren is a freshman at Pacifica this year and is very involved in water-polo. She has practice 3 EARLY mornings a week and everyday after school. This on top of a very difficult academic schedule. Lauren is a natural in the water and we love to see her play - we're sad to see the H2O season coming to an end, but she's already geared up for the swim team!

McKenna is still our 'puppy' although she's about 12 years old!! She has the good life of sleeping all day and then going for a walk every morning with Chelli. She surely doesn't act her age - one would think she was a young dog the way she gets all excited and runs all over the place when it's walk time!

Just Learning!

This is my first attempt at blogging, my New Year's resolution a month late. I've wanted to start a blog for sometime now, but I was overwhelmed by the thought of actually doing it. Now that I sit here I'm addicted!! There's so much to create and I'm sure I've only touched the surface. It's getting late (way past my bedtime) so I'll get back with you tomorrow.
